Oak Lane Cemetery
United States
Приєднався 22 сер 2012
Oak Lane Cemetery is our Halloween yard display and home haunt located in Hopewell VA. I build most of our props and consider many of them to be works of art. We started around 2007 with just a few store bought tombstones and a couple of really bad props I made myself. Through the haunt community I have learned new techniques and adapted them into props I've made and our haunt has grown and improved greatly over the past few years. I enjoy making things and sharing how to build props with others. Feel free to replicate any of my work for your own use, but I do not give permission in any way for anything I've made to be copied for resale or production.

One last improvement to the coffin animation!
I decided I really didn't like the steady side to side motion of the head so I contacted Jekyll Labs for another one of his awesome Twitchboards. (Same ones I used in my witch and spider) He had it programmed and sent out to me in no time, but I just got around to installing it today. I wired it into the power supply with plug connectors so that IF there is ever a failure, I can bypass the twitchboard and go back to the side to side animation very easily. I'm LOVING the new movement! Looks way creepier than just a side to side motion.

Coffin And Body Build
Переглядів 835День тому
This is the full length build video for my recently completed remake of our coffin and body prop. The old prop was made 7 years ago from foam over a wood frame and it has deteriorated quite a bit over the years. The new one is all wood and I made big improvements to the body inside as well as added animation. Here are the links to the .stl files for the 3D printed skull and hands I used. All cr...

New Toe Pincher Coffin Update #4
Переглядів 37514 днів тому
Got the old body transferred over and corpsed! Replaced parts of the original body with 3D printed skull, neck and hands. Latex and spray foam corpsing. Now I just need to stain the coffin and wrap up a few other details and this project will be done!
Coffin Update #3
Переглядів 76914 днів тому
Had to pull half of my display from storage to get to the old coffin, but I got it out, removed the body and pulled the 2 layers of cloth lining from it. Everything is now in the new coffin and I've started the process of upgrading the corpsing on the old body.
Coffin Update #2
Переглядів 51814 днів тому
Put in a solid 6 hours on the coffin project today and got a lot done! Finished up the box and lid and got the motor and pipe support installed. The majority of the day was spent carving the busted out hole in the lid. Went at it with a utility knife, a wire wheel, an oscillating tool and a big serrated knife to get a jagged, busted out look. I didn't want a straight-cut cartoon looking hole. N...
Starting A New Project - Animated Toe Pincher Coffin
Переглядів 60321 день тому
We are going to be replacing our old foam toe pincher coffin with a new, sturdier animated version. The foam one has become very fragile over the years and I decided to replace it with a more versatile and animated one. The new one will be full length so that I can display it in a variety of ways and the body inside will turn it's head slowly from side to side. I'm still in the early stages of ...
Someone Stole Our Bird Bath and Gargoyle!!!
Переглядів 2,6 тис.28 днів тому
This just proves people will steal anything not nailed down. On 5/25/31 at 9:07pm someone pulled up in front of our house and stole a gargoyle statue and a cement birdbath basin from our front yard. The birdbath was a mother's day gift to my wife over 15 years ago. Hoping one of our local Facebook or UA-cam followers will spot the items or knows who did it and will help us get them back. I woul...

I've had many, many questions about how I do the cracks on my foam tombstones so I figured I'd make a video on it.
HELLRAISER/Frank Cotton Tombstone Build
Переглядів 853Місяць тому
Here is the full build video for the remake of the old "Frank Cotton" tombstone I made over 10 years ago. It was one of the first tombstones I ever made and it has been in our display every year, even though it has been moved further and further back each year as I made bigger and better tombstones. I felt like it was a good idea for a tombstone and that it deserved to be replaced with an upgra...
Frank Cotton/Hellraiser tombstone sneak peak!
Переглядів 237Місяць тому
Made a lot of progress on this over the last few days after finally deciding on a direction to go with finishing it. Added some chains and 3d printed hooks, then got it painted. Still need to finish detailing it and seal everything but it's close enough to done to let everyone see it. The full build video will be out in the next week or so.
Finished Cthulhu Death Whistle
Переглядів 407Місяць тому
It was a GREAT looking model, even if the whistle portion does not work as it should so I decided to finish it by painting it to look like an old stone/glass artifact that I can use as detail in the witch scenery. I did about 5 coats of bondo spray primer to cover most of the layer lines before painting with acrylics and added a semi gloss clear coat to finish it.

Oak Lane Cemetery Halloween Display 2023
It's amazing how such a small change can make a big difference. This looks much better!
Looks awesome with the random side to side! And love the coffin lid!
What expandable hose are you using between the blower and the tote?
I started out with some 3in vacuum hose, but it got brittle on me in storage so I switched to a cheap 3" plastic coated aluminum flex duct thinking that might last longer. It worked good, but was pretty fragile. My next plan was to glue up some 3in pvc and fittings to make a hard line instead of using the flex, but I just happened to find some 3" flexible pipe that fit PERFECTLY and was long enough to allow me to eliminate that short hose between the box and my fog tube. Now I have the blower attached directly to the box outlet and my super long fog tube attaches directly to it. Unfortunately I have no idea where to find the same pipe like I'm currently using because I found it in a trash pile at work.
Yeah, the in-line blower is 3”. I’m going to try 4” flexible dryer duct, which snugs up against the in-line blower box and then try to connect that to the tote pvc exit somehow. I’m trying decide whether to use 3” or 4” pvc for the tote exit. I think you mentioned that you thought 4” would be better.
Yea, doing all 4" would probably make more sense and be easier to fit.
That's frikkin cool.
Definitely better! I love how the empty eye sockets follow you, lol Great job as always!
This is movie prop quality work dude ! 👍
WOW!!! Just incredible. Amazing job.
Great Job. Thanks for Sharing.
So cool, very nice job! I've been wanting to do the latex corpsing but I'm worried about it disintegrating too fast since UVB breaks down latex pretty fast. What's been your experience with it? If it at least lasts a few years I'm good with that, I just don't want to be doing massive repairs every other year
All depends on climate and sun exposure. Latex breaks down fastest under heat and direct sunlight. I've found a top coat of spar varnish can help a lot, but all latex will break down eventually. Embedding cloth or shop towel can also help add strength and prolong it's life. This one is somewhat shaded in his coffin, plus it will be in a shaded area so I expect to get at least 5 years before it needs repairs.
The cool thing about redoing old builds is reusing items such as seven year old cloth that have actual patina to them. Makes the prop look even more aged and realistic in my opinion. Another great job!
The old plastic corpsing saved me a lot of time as well. I didn't have to 100% redo the entire thing, just stripped it off the areas I wanted to improve and repaint everything else.
I’ve seen so many setups and I think this is the one I’m gonna try! You did an amazing job!!
How did you do the wiring connections exactly? You didn’t specify in the video.
Just the two wires "+ and _" from the motor down through a hole in the table. The wires run along one of the branches of the table base to a 12v female plug at the very bottom where I connect the power supply. there is a 12v PWM speed control under the table (4:25 in the video), that allows me to control the speed at which the motor turns.
So well done. All the details are perfect.
A 3D printer is a game-changer isn't it? 😊
Sure is!
Are you using the 0.2 nozzle? The layers look invisible on camera, not sure about in hand but people won’t get that close to it anyway. Brilliant printer.
0.4 nozzle with matte pla + filament. They are still there, but very fine. I had to take care not to make them more visible when I stained and aged it. Did a light coat to get some color, went over it with a couple of coats of spar varnish to fill in the lines some, then did another heavier staining over that and a light coat of spar varnish. Used flat finish clear spray to knock that shine off you see at the beginning of the video.
@@OakLaneCemetery that’s really great if you only needed a couple of coats of spar varnish and then some matte finish, better than using fillers. Did you use a airbrush to spray the spar? So using the 0.2mm the lines would be even finer as well. I’m buying the machine I’m sold.
I think the main thing was using matte PLA, which made the layer lines less noticeable to begin with. The spar varnish worked in the same way Bondo spray primer or any other filler would have in that it was thick enough to blind over the layer lines and make them smoother for the next coat of finishing. I just brushed it over the first basic color layers, let it dry, then came back in with additional layers of staining to finish.
First Class, all the way. Thanks for the tutorial. Your stuff always ROCKS!!! Just a question, if you slightly corpsed the skull, would that impede head movement?
As long as the corpsing was done carefully and avoided attaching to the neck, or creating textures that would snag on the cloth it would be fine. I decided I wanted a look that was more of something that looked like the coffin had been opened for a while, which exposed the body to the elements and scavengers and sped up decomposition of the most exposed areas. If I ever tire of the look I can easily pop the head off and replace it with a corpsed one, or a jawless one in about 30 seconds. The way I made the drive was so that I can even disconnect the pipe at either end and remove the whole motor box for repairs or upgrades.
Nice job! Is the skull STL available?
Yep. I'll add links both the skull and hands to the description. Forgot to credit for those.
Looks great!
Spooky, nice 3-D print of the skull.
Incredible! This is creepy without the movement, but now it's just over the top. Can't wait to see the cemetery come to life in the fall. :D
😂
Love it
Looks great.
Looks good! The motion is nice & smooth.
So, I wonder if you did put ice in the water if that would help even further? Since it would chill the water that is being turned into mist.
Adding ice will greatly reduce the mister's ability to create mist. It has an optimum operating temperature range and going below that causes it to not work as well. The whole point of this is to get away from using ice and by adding ice you will just be creating a big, inefficient ice chiller and probably damage a $100 mister head. Ultrasonic chillers needs no additional help. They already work far better than any home made ice chiller ever made.
The House Of Hydro talks about temperature and misters here - ua-cam.com/video/C8D-g9EPXXY/v-deo.htmlsi=D4Kua_f9nIXfNT7X
Dreadfully beautiful
Wow that looks great!
Very nice.
Dang it looks great!
Beautiful 🙂👍🏻 Greetings from Germany 👋🏻
I LOVE IT!!!!
Awesome!!
Nice touch how the neck vertebrae doesn't all move at once, its more of a progressive movment. Very realistic.💀💀💀
looking amazing!!!!!! inspirational for sure!
No disrespect to your old coffin, but this guy is blowing it out of the water! Looking forward to seeing the finished prop.
it's looking better and better !
Sweet head movement. Love how neck vertebrae covers rotating PVC. A Masterpiece in the making. Thanks for providing a tutorial showing your progress.
Looks fantastic so far! Looking forward to seeing the end result!
Love it
WOW! Coming along amazingly. Did you print out a bushing for where the PVC pipe goes through the support beam in the middle?
It is a pvc connector that's slightly too big for the 1/2" pipe so it allows the pipe to slip through. I just drilled out a snug hole in the 2x4 and pounded the adaptor into it with a mallet.
It's looking great so far!
what are the white pieces at the bottom connected to the wiper motor called ?
That is a prop turner mechanism from Spider Hill Prop Works. I'm finding that sometimes it's worth it to just buy a nice smooth pre-built mechanism than it is to spend hours making one myself. All I had to do was attach the prop turner and my wiper motor to a mounting plate and it's good to go.
@@OakLaneCemetery Nice ! I'm building a few dummies for the yard this year and I just wanted basic Head movement. thanks :)
Love it so far!😊
I had a lemon tree dug up right from my front yard. I do not plant expensive plants anymore, just annuals. So sad.
We are experiencing the same problems with stealing wreaths off the door to porch pirates taking packages in broad daylight. Post to your community, we have found it has been food delivery people committing the thefts here. Working together, we have identified several by getting footage of them making a delivery first, before they put on sunglasses and goodies and masks. Good luck.
you show your projector around the 5 min mark. Can you recommend what kind you use?
That is an AAXA Halloween projector I was sent to evaluate and review. It's a solid little projector, borderline for doing window projections, but great for smaller areas like my spider scene. It is not recommended for outdoor use, but I keep it covered and sheltered and bring it in if the forecast calls for rain. - amzn.to/3V6Tfhp
@@OakLaneCemetery Thanks!
The skull looks great! I cannot imagine how much time you must have spent sanding it in order to get it so smooth.
About 5 minutes before I gave up and just coated it with a thick layer of clear coat to make it smooth. lol Up close you can see some layer lines in the stain and aging wash, but at 5 or 6 feet nobody will notice.
Love Spider Hill. It's cool they added a speed control but I like the slow turn.
Only the turning mech is spider hill. Everything else I slapped together. Did they add a version with a speed control? I didn't even look, just went straight to what I needed and ordered. lol
Nice! . Looking forward to see the end result.
Oh no! That is awful. What is wrong with people?
